EU – Western Balkans Youth event kicks off today

BRUSSELS – The youth seminar “Bridging the gap between youth policy, youth participation and parliamentarians in the Western Balkans” takes place on 20-21 November in Brussels.

It is organised by the European Commission and the European Parliament and takes place in the framework of the “High Level Round Table on the European Integration Process of the Western Balkans in a Regional Perspective”.

Over 60 participants from the Western Balkans representing youth organizations, the Regional Youth Cooperation Office in the Western Balkans and national parliaments will discuss about youth participations and how parliaments and youth organisations in the region can work closely together to bridge the existing gaps. The seminar builds on the recommendations of the Youth Forum “Connecting Youth – Moving Forward” organised by the European Commission in Trieste, July 2017, in the framework of the Western Balkans six Summit.

Some of the key speakers of the seminar will be Eduard Kukan MEP, Chair of the Working Group on Western Balkans in the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Fabio Massimo Castaldo, Vice President of the European Parliament and lead MEP for EP Young Political Leaders Programme, Jerzy Pomianowski Executive Director, European Endowment for Democracy, Đuro Blanuša, Secretary General, Regional Youth Cooperation Office of the Western Balkans, David McAllister, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Angelina Eichhorst, Deputy Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia at European External Action Service, Genoveva Ruiz Calavera Director Western Balkans, Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations.
